Burying the Typewriter

The book Burying the Typewriter: A Memoir by Carmen Bugan lies at an angle on a table. The book cover is black with a red outline. A picture on the cover is a collage depicting a typewriter, a photo of the author as a child, and a reproduction on her father's file from the secret police of Communist Romania.

Not sure if my mom gave me this book because she thinks I’m a Communist or if it’s just a good book. It is a good book! A memoir, in fact. Carmen’s father is Ion Bugan who staged a one man protest against the Romanian Communist dictatorship in 1983 and paid for it by spending the next few years in jail, and his family under intense surveillance by the Securitate. Let’s work toward not getting here, America.
