Light Perpetual – Francis Spufford

Another book I’ve been holding onto and dying to read. I decided to just give myself joy and do it.

And oh, oh, what a treasure.

Five children are killed by the bombing of Woolworth’s in South London during the Blitz. But what if they weren’t? What lives might they have lived? It made me think about my grandmother who was hiding in shelters during the Blitz. What a miracle she survived to have children and grandchildren and great-grandchildren. What an amazing feat it is to just survive this life.

A joyful book about how hard life can be and the many intersections we come to that make all the difference without our noticing.
