The Displacements – Bruce Holsinger

Another dystopian novel? Yes, please! I love this shit. It soothes my anxiety because anxiety tells you to prepare for every contingency. Also this book gives me more reasons to hate Florida, and you can never have too many.

The world’s first category 6 hurricane barrels over southern Florida displacing millions of people into camps set up across drier states.

The group we follow ends up in Oklahoma with no money and very little in the way of family cohesion.

The book whipped along so that 431 pages took me less than 24 hours. My only complaint is the obnoxious names of most of the characters (Brantley? Really?) which fed into some of the also obnoxious stereotyping. It wasn’t bad enough to put the book down, but be prepared to occasionally roll your eyes at Bruce.
