Feminism for the 99%: A Manifesto – Cinzia Arruzza, Tithi Bhattacharya, Nancy Fraser

I just kept thinking: this is why when the right says liberals are boring and pretentious it rings true.

It’s supposed to be a call to arms; a manifesto for shaking things up and calling feminists to the table. And it’s SO BORING to read.

I know these ideas, I share these ideas, and yet I was really struggling to want to continue to read this. I think academia has really taken over the language of the left and that seriously hampers our ability to get our point across to normal people who don’t speak the language of the academy.

As a writer and editor I get why language precision is important. But it does not raise people to your level. It simply makes them think you think you’re too good for other people and that your cause is therefore not for them.

We can, and should, do better.
